World Corrosion Awareness Day 2026 – A Global Campaign for Awareness and Action

On 24 April 2026, the global corrosion community came together once again to celebrate World Corrosion Awareness Day (WCAD 2026). Coordinated by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) in close collaboration with the World Corrosion Organization (WCO), the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), and the International Corrosion Council (ICC), this year's campaign reached audiences in more than 25 countries, demonstrating the growing international commitment to corrosion awareness.

The 2026 campaign was built around the theme:

"Did You Know? – The Corrosion Conversation"

Its objective was to move beyond simply raising awareness and to encourage meaningful public discussion about the enormous impact of corrosion on everyday life. Throughout April, organizations, universities, companies, and individual experts shared educational content illustrating how corrosion affects infrastructure, transportation, energy systems, water supply, public safety, sustainability, and economic resilience. The campaign highlighted that corrosion is not an inevitable consequence of aging—it is largely preventable through sound engineering, effective maintenance, and informed decision-making.

A particular strength of WCAD 2026 was the outstanding international cooperation. Professional societies from around the world organized technical workshops, seminars, educational events, and coordinated social media activities. Hundreds of posts were published across LinkedIn and other platforms, successfully bringing corrosion awareness to audiences far beyond the traditional corrosion community.

The World Corrosion Organization (WCO) actively supported the campaign through its website and LinkedIn channel while encouraging its member organizations to participate and amplify the global message. The campaign also complemented the WCO's  Corrosion Awareness Honour, which recognizes outstanding contributions to increasing public understanding of corrosion and its prevention. Together, these initiatives underline the WCO's long-term commitment to positioning corrosion awareness as an essential element of engineering, sustainability, and public policy.

World Corrosion Awareness Day has become one of the WCO's flagship initiatives in fulfilling its mission of increasing global understanding of corrosion and promoting effective corrosion management. By bringing together international organisations, industry, academia, and individual professionals, WCAD continues to strengthen the worldwide effort to improve safety, protect critical infrastructure, reduce economic losses, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

The World Corrosion Organization sincerely thanks AMPP, EFC, ICC, all partner organizations, volunteers, and participants whose enthusiasm and commitment made World Corrosion Awareness Day 2026 another outstanding success. Together we continue to demonstrate that corrosion prevention is an investment in safety, sustainability, and the resilience of society.
