• Digital Sustainability Summit Week (27 Nov – 1 Dec 2023)

In the last week of November WCO organises the Digital Sustainabilty Summit where the presentations submitted on the WCO Sustainability Platform before can be discussed directly with the community. During this week zoom sessions will be organised where all lectures will get a time slot to discuss with the community.

The community will have six months to submit contributions and then view them at their leisure in the run-up to the summit. These presentations will then be discussed at the summit.

The digital summit provides an opportunity for efficient preparation that an in-person congress does not offer.

  • Contribution of Corrosion to Sustainability: The WCO Sustainability Platform

The WCO opens its own digital platform where the Corrosion community can present their scientific contributions in the context of the topics of the UN Sustainability Goals. Building on the platform used for the digital Eurocorr conference, researchers and developers will be able to present their latest results in a digital presentation. Their presentation will be available at any time so that the content can be disseminated as widely as possible.

The Platform will be launched with a big event on July 1, 2023. If you submit your contribution by 31 May, we can guarantee that your contribution will be available at the launch on 1 July and will benefit from the attention of the launch event.

  • Stress corrosion cracking of austenitic alloys: From the Coriou effect to the stress corrosion cracking of stainless steel

    Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 14:00 to 15:15 CEST (CEST/UTC+2)

The presentation will focus on a historical perspective, from the choice of Alloy 600 in pressurised water reactors (PWRs) to its ‘prohibition’ and ends with a few considerations regarding the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of stainless steels in the primary circuit of PWRs. Also investigations regarding the SCC mechanisms via the use of stable isotopic tracers will be presented. The end of the talk includes a brief summary of the recent SCC incidents in part of the French PWR fleet.

  • Corrosion Engineering Open Ended Lab at University of the Punjab, Lahore

Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME), University of the Punjab in collaboration with AMPP Pakistan Chapter organized Corrosion Engineering Open Ended Lab (OEL)  Exhibition on 20th December, 2022 at Corrosion Control Research Cell, IMME, University of the Punjab, Lahore. The students of 6th semester were assigned a specific topic for which they need to develop/ conceptualize an experiment/ formulate a procedure, fabricate the equipment and conduct experiments and exhibit the same at OEL exhibition. The concept of OEL is actively being promoted by the Pakistan Engineering Council.

Carlos Arroyave is titular and emeritus professor of the University of Antioquia, in Medellin, Colombia. He is author of more than 70 papers, 52 reports on technological, industrial and university solutions, 120 communications, and more than 45 invited lectures, related with subjects as materials science and engineering; corrosion, anti-corrosion; protective coatings; materials degradation; new materials; atmospheric corrosion; paints; higher education administration; science, technology and innovation policy and management; and science and technology parks management. He was born in Yarumal (Colombia) in 1954, and educated in metallurgical engineering (university of Antioquia, 1979), M.Sc. on metallurgical engineering and materials science (federal university of Rio de Janeiro, 1988), Ph.D. on chemistry (Complutense University of Madrid, 1995), guest researcher (UMIST, Manchester, 1995), and post-doctoral stay (Swedish Corrosion Institute, Stockholm, 2001-2002). He was presidents of the Colombian Association of Corrosion and Protection (1997-2001), the Ibero-American Association of Corrosion and Protection (2006-2011). He will be taking on the Presidency of the International Corrosion Council (2014-2017).

Currently, he is a Vice-chancellor for science, technology and innovation in the Antonio Nariño University (Colombia), where he is leading research related with atmospheric corrosion and anti-corrosion methods under complex conditions.

We wish Professor Carlos Arroyave  all the very best and hope he continues to actively promote corrosion awareness.
